This article outlines the steps we take to minimize food waste as much as possible.
At FELFEL, we believe that great food should never go to waste. That’s why we’ve taken concrete steps to reduce food waste and ensure that every product is used in the most sustainable way possible.
Here’s how we do it:
Step 1: Happy Hours – Good Food at a Better Price
Every Wednesday, we start our Happy Hours, offering discounts on selected products. And on Fridays, we add items that would expire over the weekend. This way, more food gets eaten instead of wasted – and you get to enjoy it at a better price.
If you want to find out more about our different discounts, check out this article.
Step 2: Giving Back – Food That Feeds People
We plan our stock carefully, but sometimes there’s extra food left. That’s why we’ve built in a one-day buffer between the sell-by date and the expiry date – so we can donate those products to Schweizer Tafel, an organization that distributes food to people in need.
Step 3: Recycling – From Food to Energy
If something does expire, it doesn’t just go to waste. Instead, we send all expired products to be recycled into biogas, which is then used to produce energy.
